Mitchell, SD – The Hometown Hero Award is presented to South Dakota businesses and individuals who support and advocate for their neighbors and communities. On June 20, 2023, Stephanie Judson, the South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) President and Chief Executive Officer, presented the Hometown Hero Award to Abbott House. Eric Klooz, Abbott House Executive Director, and Virginia Wishard Lambert, the Abbott House Director of Development, accepted the award in front of the tree mural inside the Abbott House PRTF building. “This is our story,” Klooz said in reference to the mural, “our kids sign a leaf when they finish their program with us. Each signed leaf is a different child, a different story.”

The Original Helping with Horsepower Bike Rebuild Program has launched again, this time honoring the past while empowering the Future with a Custom Harley-Davidson Road Glide Makeover!
MITCHELL, SD - The original Helping With HorsepowerTM Bike Rebuild Program has returned to Abbott House in Mitchell, SD, this time with a legacy motorcycle that already has an amazing story and sparkling presence. The program provides hands-on problem solving skills for 40 Abbott House girls, ages 7- 17. Together they will re-design, repair, and customize a 2007 Harley-Davidson Road Glide that has been donated by influential ambassador for women in motorcycling, Diva Amy Skaling.
The winner of the 2021 Build Abbott Motorcycle Rebuild was drawn at the Rapid City Rush hockey game on October 22. Ron Gates of Mitchell, SD was this year's winner! Ron graciously plans to donate a portion of the proceeds back to the Abbott House.

MITCHELL, S.D. – Billy Beers and his siblings Wavelene and Bobby were brought to the Abbott House in 1945. Today Billy Beers is Bill Williams. Because of the significant impact Abbott House has had on his life, Bill Williams wanted to give something back to Abbott House. He commissioned Karen Bakke, a South Dakota artist, to create a painting of the Abbott House fire. Williams donated the original artwork to the Abbott House during the 2021 Ernie Peters Day celebration.
Rapid City, SD – “Build Abbott”, a re-established motorcycle rebuild program for Abbott House foster children, just named its newest project — INSPIRE.

MITCHELL, S.D. – Abbott House is looking for individuals, businesses and corporations who want to help provide a home and a family for six foster boys in Mitchell while doubling their investment. Avera Health has partnered with the Abbott House fund drive effort to provide a dollar-to-dollar match for the next $20,000 in donations.
Rapid City, S.D. – Abbott House will receive $18,000 through a partnership with the Black Hills Area Community Foundation, the John T. Vucurevich Foundation and the United Way of the Black Hills to assist with costs directly tied to increased needs with COVID-19.
